Mission Possible – Mission 6
Mission 6
Your four-part mission, should you choose to accept it is:
Fitness (Mission sponsors: Master Trainers)
- We have come to the finish line, congratulations! Your hard work and dedication to your program should start yielding some results. Be proud of your efforts, and realize that this is just the beginning; you are now ready to commit to the healthy way of life. Realize that during this journey, there are periods of inactivity and set-backs. Your goal, going forward, should be to minimize these inactive periods and set-backs, stay active and stay down your path towards exercise success!
- Your assignment this week is simple; I want you to reflect on the past 5 weeks and seriously consider what stills needs work. Be honest with yourself and ask yourself the right questions. Did I push myself? Was I motivated to be self-guided? Do I need someone to further my success? Will I benefit from working with a certified personal trainer?
- Even if you are satisfied by your answers to these questions, I still want you to engage a personal trainer and have a conversation about your exercise routine. If you are not satisfied with all of the answers to the questions above, I want you to at least hire a trainer for one session so you see and feel the difference. Exercise is about safety and efficiency. We want to get you the results you want. So, consider this self-analysis and get outside your comfort zone and ask for help.
In closing, I am proud of everyone involved in the Mission Possible program and hope to see you all at the club exercising and having fun!
Nutrition (Mission sponsor: Amy Peck, MS, RD, CPT, Master Personal Trainer)
What if I told you that you could take a pill that was absolutely guaranteed to boost your immune system, to decrease your risk of heart attack or stroke, help prevent cancer, decrease your blood pressure in four weeks, and would also help you lose weight? You would probably run to buy this pill, and maybe even try to buy stock in the company that produces it, right?
Well there is such a substance and it is available now, backed by hundreds of scientifically controlled studies on thousands of people over many decades, and it doesn’t even cost much money. What is it you ask? Drum roll, please… The magical substance is none other than produce…. fruits and vegetables, some of the most potent disease fighters available!! Produce is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, has little or no fat, tastes great, and is widely available.
All plants are loaded with thousands of ‘phytochemicals,’ which act to defend the plant against disease and will do the same for you when you eat these foods. Your nutrition mission this final week is to count up the number of fruit and vegetable servings you are eating and see if you can do better. Aim for 5 – 9 servings of fruits and veggies daily and choose a rainbow of different colors to maximize your phytochemical intake. A serving of fruit is 1 medium piece of fruit or 1 cup of cut up fruit or berries, and a vegetable serving is 1 cup of raw veggies or ½ cup of cooked.
Congratulations to all our Mission Possible Agents! You have worked hard and by now you should be feeling empowered, energized, and ready to tackle more new challenges. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time for an individualized nutrition program to help you feel and look your best. Best wishes to all!

Personal Coaching (Mission sponsor: Heidi Michaels, Professional Life Coach)
- This week’s mission will require you to be very conscious of your daily decisions.
- Too often we walk through life without being conscious of our actions.
- In order to achieve your mission possible goals, it’s important that you commit to making new choices to create new healthy habits.
In making choices you are saying YES to one thing and NO to another. For example, when you said YES to joining Mission Possible…you were saying NO to staying in your regular routine. You were saying YES to trying something new.
When you say YES to that piece of chocolate cake, what are you saying NO to? Your commitment to eating healthier? Losing those extra pounds?
When you say NO to that piece of chocolate cake what are you saying YES to? Your commitment of losing those extra pounds?
This week, when you are faced with choices, (should I go to the gym?, I want another piece of cake, should I try that spinning class?) answer these questions for yourself.
- If I say YES, what am I saying NO to?
- If I say NO, what I am I saying YES to?
It’s often hard to say NO….to work, to family, to routines; however, when you say NO, it opens up new possibilities and ways to spend your time and energy!
Let me know how this works for you! [email protected]
Skillful Living Tip (Mission sponsor: Merv Tugendhaft, Assistant Fitness Director)
“You don’t get to choose how you are going to die, or when. You can only decide how you are going to live, now!” – Joan Baez
Think about it! This might sound extreme, but replace “die” by any other circumstances you can’t control. A big part of your health CAN be controlled by your choices. On a daily basis you will decide how you are going to live. Are you making healthy choices, such as exercise, nutrition, and rest? Or, do you decide to neglect your body and all the information we have given you? Remember, you’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you’re going to bed with satisfaction! Make the right choices and feel good about yourself!!!
“You don’t have to change that much for it to make a great deal of difference. A few simple disciplines can have major impact on how your life works out in the next 90 days, let alone in the next 12 months or the next 3 years.” – Jim Rohn
Pick one goal each week that you feel confident you can modify for years to come. Every week, record the date of commitment by goal. Share your goals with someone that is close to you and put a note of your goal on your refrigerator so you are more likely to succeed.
