Dear Parents,

Beach Day was so much fun! The students had wonderful time learning about the ocean and the fish that live in it. Thanks for all the great 100th day projects. It makes learning how to count a lot of fun.
The class is going to have a St. Patrick’s Day Party on Wednesday, March 17th. There will be a sign up sheet above the cubbies. A leprechaun has been seen running around the classroom. The child that finds him on St. Patrick’s Day will win a special prize. The kids love it.
March 24th is Teddy Bear Day. Have your child bring their favorite teddy bear for a Teddy Bear Picnic. If they don’t have a bear I will bring extras for them. The students will go on a bear hunt, sing teddy bear songs and learn teddy bear poems.
The Parent-Teacher conferences went very well. If you have Kindergarten forms for me to fill out, bring them into class. I can mail them to the school or return them back to you.

Thanks,
Miss Terry

Adventurers March Newsletter

In the month of March we will be continuing our letter work, focusing on letters Q-T, and beginning lessons on numbers 1-3.  Our color of the month is purple.  We will be discussing the upcoming season of spring, and the changes in weather that come along with it.
Miss Nicole will be working on Progress Reports this month.  Once they are completed and handed out, you may schedule a conference if you wish.
Beach Day was a success, and the kids really enjoyed the visit from the “Sea Creatures!” Thank you to all who volunteered to bring things in for our Valentine’s Day Party! We had such a great time!
There will be no school the week of March 29 for Spring Break.

Afternoon Enrichment
Afternoon Enrichment Cooking Class for March

LAYERS! This is the new direction of the cooking class this month. We have been busy preparing recipes that all include one common theme:
layers.
We started with a simple taco recipe. The children learned how to layer the different ingredients and they had a ball. Some of the children had never eaten a taco before, and Mimi won the “gold” for taco-eating form. (We were still all excited from watching the Olympics.)
This week we made a 5-layer salad, and Christopher Ramano helped us count each layer…realizing that each ingredient counted as a different layer.
Cooking with “layers” is a simple yet effective way to have pre-schoolers not only enjoy cooking, but to also introduce basic math. They simply “add” with each layer.
The attention span of the cooking students has improved SO much since September. What once was a half-hour class is now a solid 45 minutes to an hour of the children really being engaged and involved the entire time.
Keep cooking with your children at home, they really love to be involved in the kitchen.
Some golden rules that your children have learned are:
Always wash hands before cooking. (wash with the sudsy water the length of “happy birthday.”)
Always wash the lids of cans before cooking to rinse away any dirt or other residue.
Always bring the bowl as close to you as possible when dumping measurements. This avoids spills.
Always have fun!
