Cycle for Survival

Help Us Make a Difference

Saw Mill Club of Mt Kisco is proud to support Cycle for Survival by holding our first annual indoor cycle fund raiser on Sunday February 12th 2012. This event will be held at Saw Mill Club East located at 333 Bedford Road in Mt Kisco, N.Y. Please support this wonderful cause which benefits cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.  I am sure most of us unfortunately know a loved one who is currently suffering from this disease or have lost a loved one due to this, we must band together to help find a cure to these cancers. Cycle for Survival is an amazing organization where all funds donated go towards rare cancer research at Sloan Kettering. These rare cancer research trials advance hope towards a cure. This will be a four hour event beginning at 12 noon. Saw Mill East has a State of the Art Spin room with 40 bikes.

Please support our team fundraising campaign for Cycle for Survival, the indoor cycling event benefiting research on rare cancers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Why Do We Cycle?

  • We cycle with determination to fund research that will lead to new, more effective ways to treat these deadly diseases.
  • We cycle with strength because we believe that together we can make a difference in the lives of so many men, women, and children affected by rare cancers.
  • We cycle with confidence in support of research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, the nation’s preeminent center for research and treatment devoted exclusively to cancer.

You can help us by making a gift to our team.  Your support will help fund new research and new treatments that bring hope to people affected by rare cancers.

Explorers
Greetings to all! This year’s class is doing great and all the children are getting along very well. Halloween was a lot of fun this year and now we are going to learn about The First Thanksgiving. The class is going to have a Thanksgiving feast on Monday Nov. 22nd. There will be a sign-up sheet above the cubbies. The students will be making Native American hats and learning Thanksgiving songs and poems. We are going to bake an apple pie for the feast.

Pajama Day is going to be on Friday, November 12th. The kids are very excited about it. Please send them to school in warm pajamas and sneakers. For the children’s safety please don’t allow them to wear slippers because they tend to trip and fall in them. On Pajama day we will be counting sheep and telling bedtime stories and having milk and cookies. The class will also discuss how important it is to go to bed early and to get enough sleep for school. We will also talk about fears they may have about the dark or bad dreams. It is very comforting to them when they realize a lot of other kids are afraid of bedtime too! We will then discuss ways that can help make us feel better.
Thanks to all the parents that attended parent night and to all the parents who brought in treats for Halloween.

Regards,
Miss Terry
Miss Dina
Miss Joanne

Adventurer’s
During the month of November the Adventurer’s will be working on letters G-I. Our color of the month is orange, and our shape of the month is square.

We will be spending much time this month on what it means to be thankful, and what we are thankful for. Our Thanksgiving Feast will take place on Wednesday November 24. The children will enjoy the traditional Thanksgiving foods, such as turkey and stuffing. If this is not your child’s regularly scheduled school day, they are welcome to attend. If you would like to volunteer to bring something in, there will be a sign up sheet.

There will be no school Thursday November 11 for Veteran’s Day. We will also be closed for Thanksgiving Recess Thursday November 25-Friday November 26.

Thank you to all who volunteered and brought in items for our Halloween Party. We had a great time!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yoga and Movement November Newsletter
The past month in yoga and movement we have enjoyed continuing to move through the alphabet doing poses for each different letter.
We have done the following new poses:
F= for friendship flower
G= for grasshopper
H= for hot air balloon
I= for Iguana
J= for jabberwocky jellyfish
K= for kissing pose

The children have wonderful memories and demonstrate what they have learned in past week at the beginning of each class. I am so proud of each of them. At the end of each class the children are read a story from the Froggy series by Jonathan London.

Seekers
Dear Parents,
November is our month for learning about friends and families, pilgrims, Native Americans, and Thanksgiving. We will be doing family trees, so please send in a list of the people in your family that should be included (ex: Mommy, Daddy, TJ, Ryan, Jillian, & Jessie our cat).

This month we will learn the color brown, number 3, shape rectangle, letters G, H, & I.
As the weather gets colder we will still be going outside, so please be sure to send your child with a jacket. All items of clothing (jackets, hats, etc.) should be labeled so they do not get lost or taken home to the wrong house.

We will be having a Thanksgiving feast on Wednesday Nov. 24, so the children can taste the different foods of Thanksgiving- We will learn how to make butter, as well. I will have a sign up sheet if you would like to send something in. Have a great month!!

Amy and Francesca

Tot Time
Dear Families,

This month we will be learning the letters H, I, J and K. The color of the month is brown and our shape is a triangle. The projects will center on the Fall and Thanksgiving.

Our Thanksgiving celebration will be on Wednesday the 24th. All Tot Timers are invited that day. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the classroom.

School will be closed on November 25th and 26th.

Have a wonderful holiday. See you on Monday the 29th.

Sincerely Miss Rosie and Miss Carol

Afternoon Enrichment

The first two months of cooking class have gotten off to a most wonderful and enthusiastic start. The students really enjoy the cooking and I really enjoy seeing them try foods that they have never tried before.

Enjoy the holiday season… here is a great Thanksgiving recipe for all to enjoy.

BAKED SPINACH ARTICHOKE DIP

1 Cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
1 Cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 Can (about 14 oz.) artichoke hearts, drained and coarsely chopped
1 box (9oz) Green giant frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed to drain
1/2 Cup chopped red bell pepper
1/4 Cup shredded Monterey Jack or mozzarella cheese (1oz)
toasted baguette slices or assorted crackers, if desired.

What to do:
Heat oven to 350. Mix mayonnaise and Parmesan cheese. Stir in artichokes, spinach and bell pepper.
Spoon mixture into 1-quart casserole. Sprinkle with Monterey Jack cheese.
Cover and bake about 20 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve warm with baguette slices.
