Weekly Fitness Tip: How Much Exercise is Enough?

Have you been lax about your exercise?

If you’ve been lax about about your exercise routine and aren’t sure what you should be doing, new recommendations give adults and kids specifics on what they can do to reap important health benefits.Get Fit Saw Mill Personal Traing mount Kiso

Adults need a minimum of 2 1/2 hours of moderate exercise per week, or one hour and 15 minutes of vigorous activity. And kids should get an hour of activity per day, according to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans announced earlier this month.

Those are the numbers the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services came up with after a two-year process that included having a 13-member advisory committee review scientific research on the effects of physical activity and health.

USTA’s Quick Start Tennis

Saw Mill Club Home of Quick Start Tennis

Quickstart is the USTA’s new tennis format designed to get kids aged 10 & under into the game, using rackets, ball, net height, and court sizes scaled to the build and age of the younger player. The USTA’s new Quickstart Tennis format helps kids pick up skills and have fun without getting intimidated by complicated scoring and adult-scale courts and equipment. Quickstart has two formats: kids under 8 play sideways on the court, with a shorter net, and low-density, lower-bounce balls. Kids 8-10 play inside the baseline with a lower net.

Saw Mill Club Quick Start Fall Session runs for 15 weeks:
Wednesday, September 10-Wednesday December 23 Thursday is 14 weeks. No classes on November 27, Thanksgiving Day

In its annual survey, Westchester Magazine recognized
Saw Mill Club as Westchester’s best place to play tennis. Here are few reasons why.

Saw Mill Club has a total of 13 tennis courts, the most in Westchester County. Nine courts are Premier Court, the most shock absorbing surface available. The other four courts are US Open Deco Turf II Hard Courts.

Saw Mill Club’s 8.0 Mx Master Team is going go to the Nationals in November.
This young team (in its second season) made up of  folks (over 50) had a shaky start.

Congratulations to Saw Mill Club junior members for qualifying and playing in the regional tennis tournament of this national event that was held in May.

Special congratulations to Jeramiah Reyser for winning the 11 year boys Division.

USTA officially launches Quick Start Tennis and it is here at Saw Mill.
Quick Start tennis is an exciting new play format for learning tennis with
special balls and small racquets, all tailored to age and size.
Shorter courts and special fun games help new players adjust quickly to learn to rally and play.
For Juniors ages 7-10
