School will be closed on Monday October 11 for Columbus Day.
Explorers
Dear Parents,

The children have had a great start to the new school year. We are busy working on the numbers one thru ten. We are also working on learning the calendar and the change of seasons. Make sure your child brings a jacket with their name on it so we can go out on the playground as the weather starts getting colder.

Star of the week will be starting next week. A schedule will be sent home to let you know when it’s your child’s turn. It is a lot of fun and makes the children feel very special.

They get to be line leader and do calendar everyday for the entire week. They also get a special star book to bring home with them at the end. Parents can send in their child’s favorite snack when it’s their turn to be ‘Star of the Week’.

Before you know it Halloween will be here. The class will be having a party on Friday October 29th. The children will be decorating the classroom and will be working on arts and crafts. Parents are welcome to come into the class at 11:45 if they would like to take pictures. Students will not be swimming that day. Children may wear their costumes to school if they wish to. If you would like to bring something in for the party their will be a sign up sheet in the classroom.

Parent night is Wednesday October 27th at 7:00 p.m. I hope to see you all there!

Love,
Miss Terry

Miss Joanne

Afternoon Enrichment
Instructor: Stephanie Klein DiChristina

I am thrilled to be teaching the enrichment program again at Saw Mill Club Preschool this year. I have my Masters Degree in Elementary Education and I am also a graduate of one of NYC top culinary programs.

I will be combining my teaching and cooking skills in this Monday class and will only use recipes that provide good nutritional value. All recipes include protein, vegetables, pasta, grains and fruit. I am a firm believer that the earlier in life a child develops healthy eating habits the better.

Please contact Lynn Hertel with any questions about the program at
lhertel@sawmillc[email protected]

Recipe of the Month: Apple Salad
2 large apples – any flavor – can be different from each other
½ cup raisins
½ cup chopped celery
½ lb thick cut swiss or cheddar cheese
½ cup mayonnaise
Rinse apples in cold water. Dry off and chop apples into large chunks. Add apple
chunks to a mixing bowl and add rest of ingredients. Stir until well blended.
Optional ingredients: ½ tsp curry powder, dried cranberries, peanuts
Enjoy!!

Yoga and Movement September Newsletter

My name is Lara Ford and I am a new teacher at the Saw Mill Preschool. I am an early childhood and elementary educator. I teach yoga and drama in Katonah as well. Yoga and movement afternoon enrichment has been off to a great start! It has been a pleasure to get to know your children.

The kids seem to really enjoy doing yoga with their friends. We
start each class off moving to music to get our bodies warmed up and ready to do yoga style poses. Each class I introduce 2-3 new poses and we build on the previous weeks. So far we have learned the following poses: A is for alligator, B is for butterfly breath, C is for Caterpillar, D is for driving my car, and E is for Eagle. I end each class with a surprise bag and a special story.

For more information about this Wednesday afternoon enrichment program contact Lynn Hertel at [email protected]

We are very busy preparing for the upcoming school year. The students will be learning the numbers one through ten. The class will work on counting as well as number recognition. The themes we will be working on this month will be the changes of seasons, and “all about me”, and the importance of family.

We hope you all had a great summer and we are looking forward to seeing you all. It is going to be a great year!

Adventurer’s
September is here and school is in session. We are going to have such a great year! In the month of September, the Adventurers will be working on getting to know each other by singing songs and playing games. We will be making new friends.

Swimming starts this week, so please bring a backpack with a bathing suit and swim cap on your child’s appropriate swim day. Thursdays and Fridays are Show and Tell days. The children may bring any toy they care to share with the class.

Please bring a labeled change of clothing for your child to leave at school.

If you have signed up for the Enrichment Program, you may pack a lunch or order one from FAB Cafe. If you have not signed up for Enrichment and wish to, please contact Lynn Hertel.

Picture day is Wednesday September 22.

I look forward to the year ahead and all the fun we will be having!

Seekers
Dear Parents,

Welcome to The Seekers Class! We are very excited for a brand new school year. This month we will be learning about “Getting to Know Each Other”, and “Special Me”.

Children will make name placemats that they will use each day at snack time. We will learn letters A & B, number- 1, color-red, and shape- square. Just a few reminders… Every Thursday and Friday is our “show and tell.” Please bring
one item from home so children will have an opportunity to share their item in front of the class. On other days, please leave toys at home, as they can often cause conflicts between children.

Every Monday and Tuesday is our “book day.” (A class list of names and dates will be sent home so you know when to send in your child’s favorite book).

Please send in diapers, wipes, extra clothes, & socks to keep in school. When it comes time for potty training, please let us know, so we can help support your child during the transition.

Please bring in a family photo to display in the classroom (This often helps ease transitions between home & school because children can look at the photo when they are missing you). Please bring in a photo of your child, to be used
on their cubbies/mail folders for name recognition.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to see me before or
after school or call me (914)241-0797.

Have a great month.

Amy and Francesca

Afternoon Enrichment
Monday morning Creative Arts

Open -Ended Experiential Art Class

This class will give the children new experiences with age appropriate art materials. The children will be exploring with a variety of art materials that aid in the development of their imaginations and self awareness. Some of the projects will include making homemade clays/ doughs, found objects/recycled sculptures and collages, as well as painting, gluing and drawing.

The goal of the art class is to foster the process of making art and not the final product. The children will come out of this class feeling a sense of accomplishment within themselves.

And naturally have fun!
