Is taking a multivitamin good for me?

SMC Vitamin SupplementsTaking a multivitamin is always a wise choice when discussing your supplementation program, but an even better idea is incorporating exercise and healthy eating habits.

The main reason for taking a multivitamin on a regular basis is that most people simply do not have a healthy diet.  However, if you subscribe to the Twinkie diet, there’s another really good reason to take vitamins, and that is exercise!  Even more so if your exercise routine is rigorous in nature.

Since exercise is absolutely essential to living the healthy way of life, it can also be seen as a “good” stressor, which may produce free radicals.  Free radicals are substances that are potentially damaging to the body at the cellular level.   Hence, multivitamins contain antioxidants.   Therefore, multivitamins can prevent free radicals from causing damage to your body’s tissues.

Okay, let’s keep it simple and look at it more logically; when you work out you can use up more of our body’s stored vitamins and nutrients. So, taking a multivitamin to replenish what’s depleted during exercise makes sense, especially if your diet is not consistent and does not follow a healthy framework.

Do you need a vitamin supplement?

Have You Ever Asked If You Need A Vitamin Supplement?

SMC Vitamin SupplementsFor starters, a well-balanced nutritional plan will provide all or most of the nutrients you need on a daily basis.  However, if you do not eat a balanced diet on a regular basis, like many people, you should consider vitamin supplements in order to get the essential nutrients you need.  Did you know there are close to 25 different vitamins and minerals that your body needs every day to function properly?  Even though some of these vitamins and minerals are only needed in trace amounts, they are still considered essential nutrients.   Furthermore, vitamins act as enhancing agents for other nutrients you consume.
Therefore, if you are not confident that your nutritional plan contains all of the vitamins and minerals you need, a vitamin supplement may be for you!

New Physical Therapist at Saw Mill Club

Saw Mill Club would like to introduce you to our new on site Physical Therapist:

Robert Castorina, PT, DPT, MS, ATC

SMC Rob CastorinaRobert graduated from temple University with a doctorate in physical therapy. He attained his master’s degree in physical therapy and athletic training from New York Medical College and Long Island University.  Robert’s areas of expertise are in sports medicine and orthopedics as well as vast experience as an athletic trainer. This has given him a unique application regarding the rehabilitation of orthopedic as well as neurological conditions.

Robert currently provides physical therapy services in the clinical and home care settings.  Robert was also a clinical faculty associate at New York Medical College where he taught therapeutic modalities.  In addition to teaching at the graduate level,  Robert has taught a continuing education course on the use of therapeutic modalities to both licensed physical and occupational therapists.

The physical therapist plays an important role in the rehabilitation of both traumatic and post surgical conditions.  We utilize hands on treatment, therapeutic exercise, and patient education in the practice of our rehabilitation programs to restore mobility and function. We believe in a functional approach to achieving patient goals to return to work, sports and activities of daily living.

Some of the benefits of physical therapy:

  • Pain reduction in joints and muscles
  • Restore range of motion
  • Increase muscle strength
  • Improve posture and body mechanics
  • Post operative rehabilitation
  • Sports specific conditioning programs to prevent injuries

In order to see a physical therapist for treatment the patient must first see their medical doctor and obtain a prescription to receive physical therapy services.
